THE PEACOCK’S FEATHERS • When the world was young, the peacock did not have the beautiful feathers that he has today. He was just an ordinary bird – but he wanted to be spectacular.

THE SUN, THE WIND AND THE MOON • Many long years ago, the Morning Star had three children, who were the Sun, the Moon and the Wind.

THE HAPPY WOMAN • Far away, in Mali, a great queen lived in a grand palace. She had silk clothes to wear, ate fine meals from silver plates, and had many servants that did everything for her.

THE FLYING VIKING • Ragnar felt cold and seasick! He looked out across the stormy grey ocean and then back at his mother.

THE GOLDEN BLACKBIRD • Once upon a time, there lived a wealthy lord, who had three sons. When the lord became ill, he called for the wisest doctors, healers and priests in the world, but none could cure him.

THE GREAT DANCE • Some two hundred and fifty years ago, a little girl was born in the city of Warsaw. Maria’s parents were teachers. They passed on their love of learning to their daughter – and her brother and three sisters!

THE DREAM OF OENGUS • In the olden days, the green and beautiful country of Ireland was ruled by godlike beings called the Tuatha de Dannan. Their chief was called the Dagda, and the handsomest of them was Oengus, the Dagda’s son.
