Storytime

THE RUNAWAY PANCAKE • All seven children in the house were very hungry, so they gathered around their mother as she folded the laundry.

THE QUEST FOR MUSHROOMS • It was a beautiful summer’s day. The sun was shining through the green leaves of the trees, and the fields were golden with wheat.

JACK THE GIANT-FRIEND! • The first thing Jack heard was the thump-thump-thump of huge footsteps. They were getting closer to his house!

THE BOY WITH MANY NAMES • About a hundred years ago, a boy was born in the village of Mvezo in South Africa. In his life, he would have many names, but the first one his father gave him was ‘Rolihlahla’.

WHAT HAPPENED NEXT.... • Rolihlahla would one day become famous as Nelson Mandela.

THE FAIRY SERPENT • Many centuries ago, in the land of China, there lived an old man who had three daughters. He loved them all very much.

THE DRAGON’S TEETH • Cadmus was a prince from the city of Tyre. He was strong and brave and clever, and everybody agreed that he would make a great king.

HUCKLEBERRY • Once upon a time, there was a gnome who lived in a cosy burrow beneath a hedge. Nobody knew his real name, but everyone called him ‘the Old Riddler’. That was a good name, because he was elderly and liked to ask riddles.

THE LION’S WEDDING • All of the animals knew that the lion was the one and only king of the jungle. He had a noble look, and his tawny gold fur was very regal indeed.

Storytime PLAYBOX • Can you make a serpent, complete a crossword, and win a race that tests your wits as well as your speed?

THE RIDDLE RACE! • The Old Riddler has challenged Huckleberry and the other young gnomes to a ‘riddle race’. They have to run through the fields – and answer tricky questions along the way!
